Now that you have an understanding of what the land means to the Nyungar, it’s time to share all of the places I went.
The first place we visited was King’s Park in Perth. King’s Park is known for it’s Botanic Garden that showcases the flora of Western Australia.

King’s Park also has significance in the aboriginal culture. Mount Eliza( Kaarta Gar-up) is the highest point in King’s Park and it overlooks the Swan River. As the aboriginal believe, the Rainbow Serpent came up from the ground and made it’s way through Kaarta Gar-up and on to the sea creating the Swan River.

This is another memorial in King’s Park, that displays the names of all of the men who lost their lives serving.

Matagarup is a small island in the Swan River. It is the second major crossing point of the river up from the mouth at Fremantle, and served as an important seasonal access point to which the Nyungar allowed other groups right of passage across the river. Matagarup is now a landscaped nature reserve that houses a population of very friendly Western Grey Kangaroos.

Yagan was an Aboriginal warrior who led a resistance against British settlement and rule in the Perth area. He was later killed after the government placed a bounty on his head.
Stay tuned for more from my adventure.
